Info if Planning to fish Canadian Waters
After our recent charter with Capt. Sam, we discussed fishing in Canada. He said it's possible i would need to check in with border Dept like we used to. So, i called both Border Info and Ontario NR. After both long holds on the line, found out that it is still only 2 lines per person when fishing. You do not need to call in and report when crossing the border to fish. As long as you don't go on land, anchor the boat or moor next to another boat. As for acceptable ID when in canadian waters. A passport or the new Real ID and your original birth certificate need to be in your possession for all on board. And, as before, no alcohol permitted to be consumed while in canadian waters for all on board.

You forgot one important thing, which I'm sure you figured was implied.
You need a Canadian Fishing License.
Also, flying a Canadian flag and knowing the words to "O Canada" is also a plus. :-)

Re: Info if Planning to fish Canadian Waters
Yeah Dave, I almost forgot....if you're not an Ontario resident, you need a nonresident Ontario fishing licence.Cost of a seasonal licence is around $80 US and a $5 sportsman card. If only planning to fish one day it's around $25 US. I've seen smaller packs of casting charters around Pelee starting in June. The waters clear up faster after a blow around Pelee due to alot of the bottom is limestone.

If you have a passport, that is all you need for your ID.If you do not have a passport an acceptable form of ID is the Real ID (driver's licence with the star) and your original birth certificate.

I've had a Canadian license for a few years now, and had wanted to fish the chick island area. Thanks for the info, I'll head up that way the first chance I get.
