Inline planer question

Working through my second season of using inline boards.
So far have things running pretty well thanks to many tips on this forum and various seminars.
How far do you keep the closet board from the boat?
I normally run 3 to 4 per side. I think I try to keep inside board at least 50 feet from boat.
How big of an effect do you think the boat has on spooking fish?

Depends on the waves. If it's calm your inside board can be 30 ft out, but in rough seas I run them back further to keep them from jumping the waves.
I run my deepest lines inside and shallow further out, theory being that if the fish are spooked by the boat the shallow lines are farthest away

Depends on the conditions and how deep the fish are.Some days the inside boards are catching and others the outside boards.But I also run that first board around 50 ft away from boat too.

I haven't been out since the spawn and was planning a trip before Memorial Day (While the fishing is still easy). I was wondering if anyone knew some productive locations around the islands. Planning to troll Bandits and Reef Runners around Kelley's and South Bass.

You should get another partner and book a charter with Juls or pork chop and they will teach you everything you need to know, where, why and how. You get a lot of knowledge for a small price. It is well worth it to take a trip with an experienced captain that is willing to share all the info they can with you, I am sure there are other captains that would share info with you but these are the two that I know will share.

It doesn't really matter how far they run from the boat, especially if your running worms. After a few minutes if your doing things right all your boards should be pretty close to the same ft back. How many times have you gotten bit before the board is even clipped on? The spread in ft bk is only used to pinpoint the most active biters, a certain ft bk will most likely dominate the others and one by one you will eliminate the ones not producing. But if you troll up wind more line out will reduce boards jumping in choppy water.
