Hi Clay,
We use snap, barrel swivel, snap. They need to be large.
We adjust our release often several times a day. We set them as soft as possible to not false release due to the waves. It is waves that will determine tension needed. If a board false releases more than once, we tighten a little. LITTLE!
You want to be able to release the board with a sharp pop of the line. The mistake many make is to keep trying to jerk hard! It is more of a pop that works best, not a big jerk (you are not setting the hook). It takes a little practice.Mike
