Ice Fishing - someone has to start the discussion...
Lake is getting ice coverage. Temperatures the next 7 days look fairly good for ice formation. No major deep freeze stretches but no major warmups. Kinda steady mid / upper 20's at night with upper 20's to a few degrees above freezing daytime. A few low teen nights. Some wind, some calm.
Lake locals, keep us updated.

Re: Ice Fishing - someone has to start the discussion...
By seeing the lake today and the extended forcast I don't see good Lake ice happening this season. At most maybe a couple weeks of tip toeing out to fish. If it was still duck season mazurick would have a path in the crap ice and the lake is all open from there fir a boat. What ice is off catawba is very thin and torn uo fron last winds. Just my opinion

Agree with island troller.Unlikely at this point to have safe ice off mainland. They will be lucky at this point to get out a few times off south bass without shanties.

Bet we'll get ice. Erie ice is a February thing. Rarely do you get decent ice in January.

Week temperature forecast, Port Clinton, day - night:
Today: 21 - 15
Sun: 30 - 24
M: 29 - 24
Tu: 34 - 28
W: 38 - 16
TH: 21 - 13
F: 22 - 16

With ice already formed on parts of the Lake, especially around the islands, it looks like by next weekend it could / should have some fishable areas.

Re: Ice Fishing - someone has to start the discussion...
It's really going to be cold for the next week and who knows how cold the next 4 wks. There may be some ice fishing on our lake this winter after all.I hope the ice fishermen get a chance to get out on the ice this season. Not everyone has a boat and some of the guides and the cities rely on the income from ice fishing.I personally have only ice fished twice. Many years ago with a guide off south bass.It was definately an experience and did catch a couple walleye. So good luck to the people hoping to get out on that ice.

To each his own. I prefer my hard water (ice) clinking in my glass as I wait for soft water.
Stay safe out there and have fun.Mike
