    Default Braid vs Mono

A while back I posted that I was going to switch to mono for pulling cranks. A few asked me to report back on how it worked out.

My observation is, we have lost far more fish this year due to poor hookups since we switched to mono. I only spliced 30 ft of mono to my braid but the number of lost fish has made me go back to the braid with a 6’ leader. I’m not seeing the reason to use mono other than better in the clips, but I wrap my clips anyway, so there you have it.

I have been using braid for a long time and I have a lot of it still to use. It is some tough stuff. I have no problems with it that I have not been able to figure out a way to deal with. Which really has only been slippage in clips from time to time. I have no plans to switch. Mono has its issues as well.

Thanks Eyecrazy on how the switch to running to some mono helped catching with cranks or not.We only fished 2 times this season so far..But there are days when the fish don't seam to grab the lure much at all and other days you don't lose a hit.Hear it all the time.Capt Sam said as much during the LEWT last weekend.Hope to read more of your posts too.

    itsbob,
can you fill us in on what captain bsam said at LEWT? or is it posted somewhere?

I have always run mono on stickbaits unless behind a dipsy. then im running shallow divers but that is late in season or in central basin.
    thanks,
    Rickerd
