If you want to get serious on getting consistent depth control on your lures, calibrating your reels is more important than the type of line you use.You can Utube on how to calibrate your reels. You also want to be using all the same rods and reels to be able to read rod tip and get the same amount of line out between rods.
Actually, some of the best charters do not calibrate their rods.Too many to do.But,their rods and reels are identical and they spool each reel with same amount of line by eyeing the line amount on the reels. That gets all their lines within a few feet of each other. That's close enough to catch for them.
