I am curious on the fall bite also. Made my first trip to Erie this spring. Now I just think about when I can go back. I was thinking about trying to get out there in October for some perch and maybe with a little luck get on some eyes.

How is the size compared to early spring? It would be more of a big fish trophy trip!

    Thanks

Traditionally the "FALL" walleye bite picks up once the water temperature drops back to a temp the fish feed more. The water temp usually peaks at 77-78 degrees and starts dropping the second week in Sept. due to the shorter days. The local fish will start feeding more and start moving into shallower water. The fish out east will start their migration west and eventually stage around Huron till the water cools even more and then head into the western basin for their spring spawn. The wild card this season will be the plentiful 2015 fish that will be reaching that 15" legal length this fall. Some guys like to fish the reefs in the fall,to catch those fish feeding in the shallower water.Others will troll off Huron or at night close to shore and catch some of the biggest fish of the season.

For me the magic number is 55 degrees. Once the WT hits that number I start fishing at night and looking shallow hoping to find those schools of shad that move close to the rocks and piers looking for warmer water.
