Fish report 5/29/17
Started in close by starve island kept three 16 to 18 inchers and probably let 15 shorts go. Casting gold and antifreeze weapons dragging across the bottom 25 to 28 fow
Moved out south of Lucy's point and in 34 fow. Caught another dozen shorts and lost our drift. Decided to move toward Kelly's shoal and try some numbers from last year. Breeze picked up again by time we got there and we put six more 18 to 23 inchers in the box and handled a lot more shorts. Switched to silver weapons and gold Colorado blades on bottom bouncers for the last six. All fish came right in the bottom slow drag across it
All in all a great day and thank you to all our veterans!!

Good Weekend Fishing
we caught 18 Keepers on Sat. and 24 on Sunday using Bandits on one side and Work Burners on the other. Bandits caught bigger fish but more on the WB. Bandits 60-80 back and WB 36-50 on Tru-Trips. Fished SE of Green with no boats around. Speed was 2.0 mph.

We stayed around Starve the whole day today. Got a late start as friends were driving up from Ashtabula area and didn't get to the islands until 10 or so, by the time they got fishing licenses, bait, and ice, we didn't get out untill 11 or 11:30. 5 of us in the boat casting and drifting.
Hi-way bait has some sort of new worm harnass they are selling, that combines a fairly normal blade with a little rubber multi-colored squid jig in line just below the spinner, right above the hooks. The idea was to make something that looked fairly like a crankbait for the casters. I was a little skeptical but it worked a treat. But, regular hammered gold blades with red beads worked almost as well. Most of the fish were real tight to the bottom in 25 to 30 fow, just north to north east of Starve Island Reef.
I'll date myself here with the wayback machine. For the hell of it I tried casting a Tom's lure (similar to any other forward weight lure) in chartreuse/yellow with a silver and yellow blade. Honestly it did very well.
In 6 hours we caught 60 fish, of which 17 were keepers. Most of the throw backs were right at 14", most of the keepers were 19-22 inches with one 25 incher thrown in, and 2 of the little guys that just cleared 15". We also got about a dozen decent sized perch and the usual collection of white perch and sheephead, but not too many.
Good day.

Thanks for the reports. Heading out to fish Thursday - Sunday this week.
We caught quit a few fish on spoons last week in the same general area. Jet 30's 5ft floro leader
Also picked up several on crawler harness. Bandits didn't do as well as the spoons and harness.
We were trolling 1.7 - 2.1 or in-between waves LOL
Thanks
