Don't live in the area… but learned through a ton of help from others on this site last year - your timing is fine. I had plans for the same time period last year and had to scratch them for a week later because all four days we were going to be there, forecast showed essentially un-fishable conditions - at least for the average john doe in his own boat. Came back the next week, and when ever the wind settled down, I could jig fish. I ended up trolling more just because of the conditions. Weather is your only factor in early April, my opinion….

I agree with cycleguy, timing should be fine. And more tha likely better than coming in March.

Very early April can be a bonzi also. Take big shiners every day ! Hope for nice sunny days and somewhat clean water. Can limit out fast in early mornings.
I will be out off Crane Crk to Locust Reef area that weekend. There is always a lull in the bite of sometimes a week or so of very little action but you never know.
3/4 oz , Blacks, Purples, White with Purple, greens. Take Bait, see I said it again. Peak water temp for peak spawn time is 46-47 degree water. Start as shallow as 8 feet near shore out to 14-16 ft. Work the reefs and watch the depth that you catch fish. Follow contour lines on your GPS to find a pattern.

Dont let what some say about the river fishing deter you . Only about 10% of the walleye use the river beds for spawning. The nearshore areas of rocky hard bottom and offshore reefs hold plenty of proven places for walleye to spawn
