Every year on this site during the Lake Erie walleye spawn there is reference to the way a slot limit and in some cases total closure of fishing for walleye would benefit lake Erie Walleye production (it has not happened yet but would have) so I posted this as Lake Mille Lacs has had a slot limit in place as far back as I can remember and a closed season during the spawn. Before the closure this was the regulation, found here in a copy and paste from the 2017 Minnesota DNR web page. The majority of the posters on this site have argued against a slot limit for the very reasons found in the links that have been provided.

Walleye: All less than 19" or greater than 21" must be immediately released, except one over 28" allowed in possession. Possession limit one.
