I will not be trolling .. check out my username.... But if I were, I would troll cranks reel slow (no Pun Intended) reel close to the bottom. Thats where I will be working.

Thanks Black Pearl. I'm still working out whether I will go.. I hate to get water in my engines, and bilge and then have to deal with cold weather.. I guess antifreeze quickly afterwards. I'm sure the outboards drain out well enough, but it lurks in my mind.

I am open to input and advice. I always have more to learn.
Hope to do some pier fishing but not sure what pier or what are some good times to go on saturday as no one has responded yet 🤔
Not sure if their even biting like back in November!

I would try out of huron just north of the dumps, we were there late nov did great. I know early Dec they were still there, I doubt even though there has been some warmer than normal times that those fish would be movin westward for spawn staging yet. The only thing keeping me from not going is my daughters dance show. I do know we marked great fish in the 30 ft but we could not get them going there, and I know others tried all Dec with the same result. All our fish came from 20fter down and up even though we really did not mark anything in that area at all.

If any one goes please let me know. Last trip out we were 1.4mph so I am sure speed should be 1mph or even slower. That's how I would start and a just from there

Sorry I'm not an ice fisherman. But if you was going to go out on the ice today that is if there was Ice strong enough to fish on where would you go. Would you go to Huron or would you go to The Reef complex or somewhere close by, somewhere between Catawba State Park and the cans that marks the north Edge of the firing range. Maybe in the South Passage. Just something to think about. I rest my case.

lol.... I like your style, Wakina.

I do think that it was spotty, but I got sent photos of really nice fish being caught on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a lot nicer day and seemed to produce a lot of limits over in the "Island" area... many in the same places that you would typically be ice fishing over there now. The photos I have are not mine, so I won't post them... But several of them were from members in here, maybe they will post.

I was trying to help those who did not really want to drive to Huron to launch, BUT ~~ After reading my own post I myself felt that it was somewhat arrogant and condescending. I sure didn't mean for it to be/sound that way but it was and I'm wearing it. All the post prior to and after were informative and helpful for some if not all and did not deserve the way that I worded my reply.

Nah... wasn't that bad. The information was good and true. Anyone that knows you (which would be anyone who has spent more than a day on this site) should know that you wouldn't mean any ill-will. Anyone that had issues with it hasn't spent anytime in these forums.

    From my 1/21 post here.

More importantly tho, no Wakina, you did not sound arrogant. You gave good advice and anyone who reads more than two of your posts knows that. I agree with what you said and a lot of the guys come from the West, as you mentioned. Huron is 20 minutes shorter drive for me or I most likely would have taken your advice and will definitely be launching out of Catawba and heading to the cans in Feb. if weather allows.

Good Luck to All!!! 2017 Walleye Season is here!

I'm all in! Boat in garage tonight after work, mount new electronics, new line on reels and head out early. We rarely get to fish this part of the lake in January! What technique was successful? Should we jig pimples and cast masters as through the ice or slow troll bottom? Were you North of the dumping grounds, if so how deep?
