Been reading all the posts on here and felt I needed to jump in. Folks! The lake erie shiner population took a big hit last year in Spring. We had 2 early spring storms that wiped out the spawn. We have had 2 great hatches of walleyes, those that are in the 8-9 inch class by now and those that are just above the 15 inch legal keep size by now. Shiners that ARE in the lake are being devoured by these walleyes. Those using golden shiners or frozen lake shiners this year for perch fishing have had no problem catching perch. Why? Because there are no lake erie shiners for them to eat. They're HUNGRY! Word is, it will be a few years for the lake population of actual lake erie shiners to replenish. And hopefully they will, but until then, we will do the best we can for everybody. Hope this helps to clear up all the myths flying around out there.
