Probably the most line you will be letting out is 150ft. Most spool backer line on the first 200-300 ft of line on their reels anyway.
Some strip off 50 ft of line every so often to get fresh line to use.
Biggest problem I have is using several different manufacture of reels and not all of them read the same. Some are as much as 15 ft difference in 30 ft, which makes it hard to figure where you are running debth wise.

I would love to have 4 takota 300's but just can't justify the money. for my walleye trolling with lite bite slide divers. I've been using the Daiwa sealine sg17lca reels with 50' of 17# mono then 300' of 65# power pro braid. we let out up to 220' when the walleye goes deep. we've caught some nice-sized steelhead and never seen the mono backing. this yr the Daiwa reels puked on us and I replaced them with Okuma coldwater 203d reels. now I'm running Daiwa sg17lc3b reels on one side and the coldwater reels on the other side.
