Line choice for dipsy reels
I'm new to dipsy fishing. After trying both lines on my reels, I have
decided to run braided line. I've heard 50# test is the way to go but
unsure of how much line to put on. Capacity on reel is 430 yards. Is
a 300 yard spool enough? Any help would be great.

if your fishing walleye i'd put 250 yrds of 15# mono backing on the reel then fill the reel almost full with 30# power pro braid. don't cut the line but reset the counter and pull off 100' on the counter. them measure to see if its 100'. if its short put more lime on the reel, if its over take line off the reel until you get 100' on the counter and the tape. do all your dipsy reels this way this is called calibraiting the reels.
if your not going to calibrate your reels you can do what I do. i put my backing on then attach the braid with a uni to uni knot, and fill the reel full of 30# power pro. now fill all reels with the same amount of mono and the same amount of braid. on my daiwa sealine17's i use 150' of 17# ande line then I use 350' of 65# power pro. the reason I use 65# is because I started out going out on a charter and that's what he used.
