Need help with jiggin

We are new to walleye fishin on the lake. We spent about 4 hours this morning jiggin all over from East of Besse to crane creek area. We didn't pick up any. We used green, purple, and black hair jigs. We also tried blade baits. What are some tips and tricks to get some fish in the box? Any help is appreciated.

Did you jig on top of any of the reefs?
How fast were you drifting.
Did you mark any fish, were there others out there netting any fish?
What weight jigs were you using.
More detailed on what you were doing will help to determine what you might have been doing wrong. If that was the problem.

Our first problem was forgetting the fish finder unit so we couldnt mark anything. We relied on Navionics for depth ranges. We didn't jig on any reefs. We started in about 10 FOW straight N. Of Besse. We heard some radio chatter of a good bite near crane creek, so we tried there for a bit. Ended by K can. Tried muddy water, clear, and everything in between.
We were drifting slow enough that our bait was staying vertical, but not sure on the speed.
We did see a few nets goin here and there.
We were using 3/4 oz jigs, with and without minnows, as well a buckshots and other similar blades.

Might want to watch a few walleye videos to see how they rig up for drifting with jigs. Try to find something like "Erie Dearies" and use Night crawlers hooked so a long part of the body trails behind. Cast into the wind and let the rig hit the bottom then slowly retrieve. Some fish may be down deep, other times they might be suspended due to the thermocline. If you feel a tug and then nothing, it might be that a fish just took part of the bait. Leave the lure down there and wait a few seconds then slowly retrieve, it may come back for seconds.
Always check the weather for wind speeds and directions.

Thanks for the info. I have used Erie Dearies and have some, but isn't that used later in the year? I thought the jiggin was vertical jiggin, like ice fishing, with hair jigs?

If your struggling in a certain area, do yourself a favor and book a charter for a weekend. Be forward with the captain and let him know what your intent is, most but not all will be more than happy to teach you little tricks and techniques that will help you while out on your own, so let it be known before you book your trip so you get the best out of your trip. Just something to think about.

we fished same area thursday 8 fish 3 guys friday 12 fish 3 guys saturday 12 fish sunday 12 fish today 2 fish today we went experimenting and tried close to home did not find them close like we want so we went back east lots of charters in area head boats out of port clinton just a hard time finding them we left dock at 8 everyday and were back at 1 or 2. make sure your making contact with bottom try a slow lift or a quick hard snap cast out snap it off bottom and real let sit snap and real. if its got a good chop ill let out line on 2 reels and work one in each hand just lift one let the other sit repeat dont give up just experiment but you have to be in contact with the bottom when your jigging if you cant feel it go heavier

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm definitely in contact with the bottom with our three quarter ounce jigs. I wasn't sure if we were jigging correctly. But we tried slow lift 6 to 10 inches off the bottom as well as quick snaps. Might have to try that casting method you described.
