I believe the lake freighters stop around early November.
I was wondering if anyone was going to be the first to say they were perch fishing on open lk Erie water on X-mas day in 50* temps.!

Freighters are still running just looked at the vessel tracking web page there are still a bunch out there. as long as the lakes stay open they will run.

I seen the freighters on the lake too. I check that website often. I like to see what I might come across out there. But I would think that they need the weather buoy for their navigation info. ???? Don't you Jim?
