What’s the current ice stage around Catawba now. The satellite looks like a lot of melting has begun

ice is melting wont be long
Amazing on how fast the ice is breaking up with the current and wind pushing it out of the western basin. Most ice is moving between Pelee and Pelee point and headed west.I guess the ice that formed during that 2 week deep freeze wasn't that thick or stable. Now the sun can finish off the near shore ice, ramps and marinas.Won't be long till some open water fishing.
I was just looking at Catawba Lake Erie live stream camera see one boat heading east , did not see any ice in view but lots of logs floating so if you go be careful
lake camera live view catawba shows ice from shore but a short way out looks open a south wind and above freezing temp should finish it off

Water temp still 33-34 degrees.
Night time temps in the mid 20's next two days.
Lots of ice still floating around and near shore.
I understand some folks just can't wait to get out.
BUT - is it really worth it right now?
Much safer to wait until the ice is gone, water temps start to rise (36+), and the air temps are warmer. That's for better fishing all around.
I couldn’t tell if it was open water or ice with the snow melted off and a little water on top
I hope to be up next week to do some work on the boat and will post some pics to show current conditions
A couple of pictures showing the ice on Feb. 27.
Catawba Island State Park ramp- notice the open water beyond the crack
Mouse Island to Green/South Bass Islands open water![]()
