20 or 30lb braid. You don't need to worry about walleye breaking off. Occasionally a big sheephead will double your rod though.

I also use St. Croix triumph with #10 braid. You can feel every little tick from the fish. Sensitivity is very important when perch fishing.

I just use a damp rag and my fingernails. Its not a quick way but it works for me. I like to keep my equipment clean so I try to not let them get to thick. Getting them off cork is a little more work.
