Saturday, 28th report.
Met up with Getting Jiggy and a couple of other friends to try our luck in Canada. Met at the boat at 7am. Made it to Pelee, checked in and picked up licenses and headed out to find fish. Tried the Wagon Wheel- nothing, then went to leamington- nothing and we finally made the decision to run to Wheatley to try Steelies. 5 minutes after our set, Fish on. We scoured the water for a couple of hours after that and picked up and eye, but no more steel. I had a few fuel line problems so we ran in before we had the chance to try smallies and eyes on the East side of Pelee. I knew it was early for steel, but had to try. It is only a week or 2 away from busting loose over there. I made a good friend In Getting Jiggy and had a nice "Tour de Canada". We will get over there again and post a video of our slammer. I think he might just be hooked after feeling the power of the steelhead and watching it surge to the surface.

I've got to go for those Steelies too. I heard that those are a blast!
You're thinking in a week or two they'll be schooled up and hot n heavy?

There have been a few landed but not in big numbers yet. It is early and the mayflies are just getting going over there. I have caught as many as 8 on the 4th of July and mid July is smoking hot. It is going to really take off soon.

I'm debating driving my boat over there from Wild Wings.
It's only an 18 1/2 ft. aluminum boat so I'm not sure that is such a good idea. That lake can be so unpredictable.
I'm going to mapquest to Wheatly and see how long of a drive it is to trailer it. I really want to catch some of those bad boys and fill the freezer.
How do those taste?

3 hour drive. Not bad at all.

Fresh steelhead on the grill is PHENOMINAL with a little lemon, dill and butter. My mouth is watering now thinking about it.
I also LOVE it smoked. It taste like any quality smoked salmon, ham etc. It is great to smoke a bunch up as it last a while and you can share with family and friends.
Trailering is a safe bet. Plan your trip for a couple of weeks. I will be there Aug 4-9. Those days you can literally land 50 fish. No joke. Jumbo perch are in then too and within a mile of the marina.

Spend some time on that site. The dock manager posts daily.
