I installed a lowrance link 5 with a shakespeare galaxy 5225 XP last winter. I can hear people calling for dockage at put-in-bay while fishing near the toledo light house [over 25 miles away] and have made calls over 20 miles. I did add an external speaker because the one in the radio was not loud enough to hear while under way, also have an older Icom in the boat with a new galaxy 5225 XT,there is no comparison,The new radio and xp cover much greater distance and very clear both transmitting and receiving
Just a note:
Higher is better, mine are mounted on my hard top ,base of the antennas are approx. 7 foot above waterLast edited by Throttles Down; 07-07-2013 at 08:37 PM. Reason: added note
