down rigger installation questions
i'm in the process of installing a sport mini troll with an 14" boom, set on a swivel pedestal. my boat is a 18'. i'm running it off the left side
questions...
is it best to run it off the left side only, or should i position it to also swivel off the transom running it off the rear parallel to the left side.
i didn't want to install until i heard from you guys.
thanks

if theres nothing on the back of the boat to get in the way i would mount it over far enough that it wasnt in the way of my diver rod holders then just run it off the back. if you have plenty of rod holder space i would mount it on the corner and i could run it either way.

assuming you can reach it to operate comfortably, including attaching lines to releases, I would suggest as the others have back for use in both positions.
either way, avoid bringing it too far forward where there is a chance of the cable swinging into the prop of your main (or if you have one kicker) motorLast edited by ShortHanded; 06-26-2012 at 09:11 AM.

I would mount it right on corner that fits you if left handed left side if right i eould go to right for easiness of use. 3 of my fish sunday came off riggers. 150 ft back.

My depth of water was 40 to 45 ft balls were down to within 5 to 7 ft of bottom adjusted to fish i marked. I let out 150 ft of lina attach to release and semd it down. Then you have releases to pick pads or chamberlins also blacks i like blacks both of these styles can be set to release at slightest hit.they are Easy to adjust blacks are easiest to me. I would use 8lb ball also. 10lb if going deeper than 50ft but see what rigger mfg recomends you don't wanna break it lol. . Nothin to rigger fishing to easy.

You have to be smart enough to set up the riggers or dipsys lol jk just sayin. They both catch fish they both give you more lines out of the way of others.
