Picked up 11 today around Myers Reef. Lost a couple at the boat. Also lost one that was tied to the boat. We put him on a stringer and then had to go to another pole. The stringer became untied and we watched s the fish and stringer lie in the water as we trolled on.:mad: It wasn't a weigher but a good eater. We were going to bleed him. Oh well tomorrow is another day.
you guys trolling or drifting?
Picked 6 in a little over an hr today plus 4 slob bass trolling. Then it kicked up enough and heard reports west i didn't like hearing about conditions so we beat feet outa there. Dipsys jets and riggers.
4 fish today trolling. But we ended up with 5 in the box. How, you may ask??
Thanks to Fishon51 (Barry) he must have felt bad for us losing the one on the stringer yesterday. Thanks Barry. I won't tell Fishkiller or Bailey that you donated to the cause. Today we were trolling, rocking, rolling, trolling, up, down, sideways, forward, and every other way possible. What a ride.
Any time you get out is great. Oh yeah we got them all off worm harnesses.
Milt - ps another victory yesterday 14- 4 our record is 6-1. It was a chore after being on the lake all day and pitching 7 innings. :) But still it was fun.
capt sounds like ur having a good weekend
Yes Sir. :)
For anyone that was out yesterday and experienced the conditions - I checked the Weather Buoy Readings for yesterday at 1:00 pm that said 1.6 ft wave height. If that was 1. 6 footers I wouldn't even experience 2.0 footers. I know that you have to double what they say for a crest to through reading but what the heck. I had to troll into them with my big engine. I was sitting in the passenger seat facing the stern and when we went down and up I was sliding off my seat. I think they were bigger than 3.2 footers.:::confused:
What do you think?
for sure came back from meyers about 11:00 she was rockin stopped at seneca shoals on the way in did one driftin to smokes picked up aonther eater it was time go took a little water over the bow a few times YELLOWPIKE 1
The last few times out my Lowrance HDS5 Lake Insight was acting up. :( It wouldn't shut off. The next day I had to restart it several times to get it working. Saturday I tried restarting it 20 times and it wouldn't start. It would freeze up, start restarting, etc. anyways no go. I talked to Lowrance a few times during the week and they said I had an internal problem and offered an upgrade $$$$. Here we go. More money. My unit is four years old. Nothing lasts anymore. I used my Moore Sub Troll to get my speed on Sat. At least I have an option to go back on. I'll be calling Lowrance tomorrow to set something up. Oh boy.!!
Did you try to do hard reset & reboot it ? If you call lowrance ask if you can try that. Also try disconnecting the power for a .5 hr or so & then try a hard restart. Listen to me,(lol) I sound like an expert at this, & thats only because I had to go thru 4 elite 7's to find a good one so far. knock on wood!
Joe try this first do the hard reset find your unit on the list and try it it may work.

Mine turned on and worked flawlessly this season. No issues. Probably should plug it in for updates one of these days
As a rule of thumb predominant winds around here are WSW. At what forecasted wind speeds from WSW do you know that wave heights will be too high to go out into Lake Erie from Buffalo?
Dennis
I went out on Saturday 3pm-11pm, behind the windmills, caught 6, 3 sheep head, 2 12" perch, and a damn gobi which really doesn't count!
No walleyes.
Ate the perch last night, they were delicious.
I also lost my first rig this weekend! A little discouraging.
I see people talking about the Seneca shoal, I know where it is but how far is that from NFTA harbor? I only have a 16 gallon tank, I don't want to get stranded, and the trolling motor would take hours to get back.
Does anyone know where I can get Navonics or Lake Master for a good price.
My 597 HD/DI combo has no contours.
I guess $600 doesn't deserve one of the most important features.
Thanks
I have the NOAA app on my phone, and use the Port Colbourne buoy for reference.
I only have a 16' bayliner capri and I was able to rough it, 5 mph thru 3-4 footers two weeks ago.
We were taking on a lot of water over the front, making the bilge work pretty hard!
At this time that buoy was reading 12 knot constant wind, and 15 knot gusts.
I know now, I wont even try at anything above that.
You can also look at the NFTA boat harbor website and they have predicted weather on there and its usually pretty accurate.
Making it to Seneca Shoal on a 16 gallon tank is more a matter of how efficient your motor is and what your running. I only have a 6 gallon tank for my 30 hp tiller and know I can go all day long on it trolling and make a 10 mile run each way in the process. If you have a gas gauge try to figure out your mpg's. The shoal is about 3.5 miles from the south gap.
As for the fishing we put 8 on the ice Saturday before the wind became to much for me. To bad we only made two passes before we had to pull trigger to head in.
Hey fishncars its to far to make trip on only 16 gallons of better bring more gas. Lol
went this morning noaa said 1ft waves they were 2-4ft no fish 5 short hits straight out the south gap drifted 45-38fow
Fishncars chips are all about same in price everywhere just depends on version do your research find what one suits ya best or download navionics on your smart phone. Oh yeah if your fishing in front of windmills without contour map you'll eventually find seneca. Like it or not lol. Once in front of far windmills look between sturgeon pt and condos on canadian side you'll see red bouy thats highest part of seneca. Be warned she eats lots of gear if you find it unexpectedly.

Thanks Fishkiller. :D
I like chopped liver! I use to have it all the time, Until I got old and can't have it anymore. I apologize. We are all one happy team here on this site. :)
I did talk to Lowrance a few times and they just said I had internal problems and didn't suggest any reset. They just want you to buy buy buy.
FYI = I did just try to do resets a few minutes ago and I couldn't get it to burp not even a twinkle. It's going back to Lowrance tomorrow. At least I'll be getting an upgrade. I bet they know that there are problems with the first gen units and won't admit it.
I just got home off the softball diamond. Milt - I made a mistake the other day we were 7-1 not 6-1. It got confusing with the rainouts. But now we are 8-1. Won in 9 innings today. I only had to throw in the bottom of the 9th and get three outs. It was a good game.
joe congrats on the game I think you played every position on the diamond this year if you get the gen2 fishfinder you will love it
Capt. Joe, just kidding hope the upgrade works for you. I love my elite 7 now that I got one that works (so far). Congrats on all the wins.
picked up 6 last nite one 31 in we put back/ moss is starting to come around
Is anyone going out tonight?
I'm heading out after work.
I might not make it to the lake if the waves are too high.
If that's the case, ill hang out in the south gap and go for some bass.
capt joe if you go with the gen2 get it with lake insight it has contour lines shows the docks in the harbors underwater pipes and everything else fishing hot spot card has and more good luck
Well my HDS5 is on it's way to San Diego, I understand that it should be there on Thursday, Milt I do have the Navionics Gold chip to use in the new unit when I get it. I bought it last year and used it in the HDS5.
Fished this morning with my son. Limited out at 11:30 AM. Caught, measured and weighed a 30" 10 pounder. Had a bad lamprey mark on the side. Handled it gently. Took a few pics and put it back in the lake. Fished Meyers Reef. Water was a bit off color. The fish were on top of the reef all morning. Bottom bouncers and worm harnesses.
Dennis
I went out last night, and only got 2 small sheep head.
Would anyone be willing to take me out and give me a lesson or two?
I'm using bottom bouncers with harnesses, and dipsys with harnesses and spoons.
Have stick baits been producing?
I have yet to try these.
My harnesses never seem to stay on the bottom regardless of speed or weight.
My dipsys only go straight, neither of them pull to the side.
I'm also having a difficult time tuning the tension on the release of the dipsy.
Its either too hard and wont release, of too soft, and pops prematurely.
I would really like a lesson if someone has the time.
I'm slipped at the NFTA if anyone is there also?
Thanks
For me not many fish came off stick bates. The dipsy can be tricky. Set the tension screw to the pressure you want to release it. Sometimes it's molded to tight and you nay have to file or adjust it. The bottom of the dipsy has a adjustment for left or right.you want to make sure it's in the right side of the boat and tightened. Sometimes the current will pull it. It may appear that it's going behind but UT's off to the side.
I know about the L or R adjustment, I have those correct, just doesn't look like its operating correctly.
I might try to file the release gap a little, this might work.
I'm using a #0, is that too small?
I'm using it at the "3" setting for L & R, and according to the chart, for 35 FOW with the O-ring, 220' of line out is needed at 2.5 knots. (2.9mph)
I'm trolling slower than that, roughly about 0.8-2.0 mph, so I'm assuming 200'-210' of line out?
Should I get a #1?
I think #3 is way too big, am I correct?
Thanks
