I would keep it bone stock no high performance cams or big carbs. I have built several marine engines over the years and its not worth building a high performance motor as your hull is only designed to go so fast no matter how much hp you put thru it, not to mention you better have minimum a Bravo 2 outdrive to handle anything over 300 hp. In my experience go with a stock cam, Edelbrock low rise intake (due to clearance issues on dog house) Edelbrock 600 cfm marine carb jetted down for trolling purposes, and stock cast iron heads. No aluminum heads due to oxidizing issues in water jacket from electrical discharge. You need reliability over speed 35 mph is more than fast enough for a walleye fishing boat. It would suck to be out 10 plus miles and have a failure due to much hp. Just my opinion its a been there done that type of deal....lol

I'm not going crazy, vortec heads are gm factory truck heads. They are just real good factory heads. Used from 1996-1999. Edelbrock vortec intake. I abosolutly hate edelbrock carbs. So will use holley 600-650 cfm. And a small marine roller cam (smallest marine roller cam comp makes)212 218 @.050. I already have the short block. Putting vortec heads on a 260 mercruiser is worth 30-40hp across the entire power band with nothing else changed. This engine will be kept mild. Just matched components. We're even setting the block up to run the factory gm roller rockers that were used from 1987 n up. First thing I wrote down on paper. Was it Must be reliable. It must idle all day. Nothing exotic.

Joe's Spot - great job on the late season catch.
Were you fishing out of Buffalo or further West.
I'm looking at one last run for eyes'.
    Thanks
