Epic slow day. Lake stirred up after big blow?
We went NW out of Sturgeon Point yesterday (Wed Sept 12), expecting to limit out just as in several prior trips, but it was not to be. There were a dozen or so boats out, but most left mid-morning when it became clear that there was no bite. We caught one 18" Walleye in five hours of trolling even though we were marking fish the whole time. Some radio chatter spoke of early morning catches nearer to Buffalo. The only explanation expressed was that the fish weren't biting because the lake had gotten stirred up due to heavy winds and high waves over the weekend (8-10 foot waves !?). Otherwise, perfect Walleye weather up top: sky was dark in morning but sunny in afternoon, light surface wind from East. Surface temp 68.

Went west out of SP. Managed to get 5 walleye. It was slow but great to get out. Not much on the screen. But the in line boards were acting funny. ?? We got stripped a few times.

We were getting bigger fish tight to the bottom with the downriggers and plugs, same depth of water as all the others just kept marking fish on or close to the bottom so thought I would try it, got a couple 4-5 lbers, but had to head in before getting anything bigger.
Steelhead should be starting to stage for heading up the rivers.

We have been getting smaller fish but plenty of them. The DEC girl checked us out yesterday and said everyone has been getting smaller fish. I wish that I knew the secret for getting larger fish. ????
It's suspose to be rough Friday and Sat. But better on Sunday. Be safe everyone.Current flotation devices:

Thanks for the reply. We fished yesterday - caught 11, all 17"-20", mostly on black & purple harnesses. We have no downriggers, but a silver flatfish(!) was about as productive as a harness. No steelhead. Beautiful day, but few boats. Very light bite; the rod would jerk, then nothing. When we reeled in, there was a fish there. Lazy Walleyes?
