Some help Please

I am bringing my son over to this part of the lake (usually fish the western end near the maumee)I am not familiar to this end of the lake at all, planning on coming up to huron/vermillion this week(Thurs) --any suggestions on where to start for the perch and or Walleye and where to launch (21ft boat). It would be greatly appreciated. Also is the walleye bite on. I know there is a tournament in October --thanks in advance
