West of the Point strange night
Since the morning bite hasn't been that good to me so far this year; Thought I might change my luck and try an evening trip for walleye. NOAA Forecast was light wind and flat. We went a couple miles west of point and had good marks in 58fow. We quickly picked up 6 nice fish with only 2 throwbacks, then they shut down. Around 7PM the wind picked up and waves started building but we managed 3 more keepers. By sundown howling winds had 4footers splashing over the stern. Could no longer read the rods because of rocking and rolling. Pulled rods in and found 2 shorties on. A little over 15 inches, but thrown back. Just not enough meat on them to justify keeping. Pink and purple willows on lead core and dipseys did all the damage. Targeted fish on the bottom at 50 to 55feet. Caught a few mussels but that's the price you gotta pay sometime. Starting to see a lot more fish. I think things are about to improve drastically. If only NOAA would get their stuff together.
