Well guys, its sort of spring. Today is the first day of 2013 Spring, at least that is what the calendar says. Complete opposite of 2012 during March.
Some guys are getting out and braving to cold air along Ohio's western basin of the Great Lake Erie. The guys that are going out and putting fish in the box, have been trolling stickbaits. Not alot of action with jigs yet which the water temps tell that story. The areas just west of the main reefs are holding some big fish heading for the reefs and Maumee River. The staging part of the spawn is now with cold water temps in the 30's. Sunshine and warm water runoff from tributaries will warm the shoreline shallows for the males to come in first. As the water temp hits the mid 40's the females move in but their time is short. The males are first in and last out of the spawning area. The way its going as of now we will be jigging for quite awhile this year. Mid May for sure if it stays very cool thru April ,making for a long jigging season. First weekend of April is coming fast so get that new line on your reels. A couple Sundays are open and one Saturday is open in April for charters. Friday April 19th is open for a morning charter.
