    Default Boat Bottom Paint

How often do you paint your boat bottom? Every year? Every other year? .........

This is for those who dock their boat

    Thanks for your reply

It depends on the kind of paint. I use a multi-season ablative. It's been on there for 4 years now. I touch it up every spring. I can probably get another season or so out of it. Some of the paints are only good for a season or two.

It also depends on how many coats were put on initially.

    Thanks Rkfet

The reason I ask is that I paint it every year. Was thinking about not doing it this year - maybe just touch up.

When I paint the bottom, I cut the paint down with mineral spirits to about a 50/50 mixture. It is power washed at year end

I have never had any problems with algae build up but thought I would ask others on their preference and practices they have. I use my boat 1 - 2 times a week so it is not sitting at the dock growing algae. I have seen some boats that actual have vines dragging behind them because their boat sat idle for too long
