Nice Farm animal! They have a way of getting your attention on perch set-ups.
On the KY side of the Ohio River at least some of the locals call them perch! There is nothing wrong with that. But it is amazing how different regions of the country call things by different names, especially fish, as they seem to get the honors more than other things.Last edited by wakina; 09-22-2015 at 07:34 AM.

Grandson reeled one about that size in trolling for Salmon on Lk. Michigan this weekend. Thing spun like a propellar all the way in. Had about 250 ft of line out. Poor kid, his arms about fell off by the time he got it in.

I have heard that they are a game fish in Florida, and people pay for guides to take them to the big ones. Hmmmmm....we are sitting on a fortune here and don't even realize it !!

Hi, Florida Sheep hang around the Piers gnawing away at the barnacles and you have to set the hook very gently. You have to be careful though, not to cut your line on the sharp edges. Wreck fishing works too and they are good! Check their teeth and you'll know why they're called 'sheepshead'. Lake Erie Sheep I've been told are know as "poor man's lobster' but only use the meat above the lateral line. I have never tried it but I bet there are readers that have? Let us know.

While sheepshead or drum are fun to catch, the Burbot (freshwater cod) has the honor of being known as the "poor man's lobster". The taste of a sheepshead does not vaguely resemble lobster, more like white bass with the bloodline left in (and that just the tenderloin portion)To each his own taste but don't try to insult a fish (Burbot) no matter how ugly it is LOL
