Although it is an "Asian" carp, it is a grass carp. They have been in lake Erie for years. This is not the "silver/bighead carp".

If this is just the typical grass carp.....why all the attention and testing?

Grass carp are supposed to be triploid and incapable of reproducing! With that being said there were reports either last year or the year before that they were found I believe in the Sandusky River and thru testing it was determined that the ones there that were caught were capable of reproducing in the wild. At that time they said that it was bad enough, but was not and would not be anywhere near as bad as having a breeding population of the other (Jumping) 2 species of Asian carp the Big Head species or the Silver Carp species in our Great Lakes In any event they do not belong in the Great Lakes.

Here is a link to the information that I had referenced and posted above.

This sounds like old news but, made one of the headline stories on one of the local Detroit TV stations last night. Probably just a slow news day or a ploy to get viewers attention. Although as previously mentioned, it does not belong in our lakes and should be taken seriously.
