If you find a block and it is from a street vehicle, car/truck be sure to change the soft plugs from mild iron to brass, unless you have the self contained cooling system with anti freeze and heat exchangers. The mild iron will rot away in a few seasons leaving you with the labor of pulling the engine again and all the associated labor that goes with it just to replace soft plugs.

do not try to use an auto block. Cam has to be changed to lower you max torque curve. If you are replacing this and use the vortec block and have a 2 barrel carb. you will have to go to a 4 barrel carb. and manifold. If you do not the engine will only be able to run a very weak 3M RPM. It will starve for fuel. Valves are bigger and needs more cfm to run. Call Jasper and give them the specs. on you engine. They have a marine division and can get you a reman. engine block and you might be surprised on the price of a 6 banger. Do it right. You have to pay to play.

A vortec block has a different bolt pattern and bolt attachment angle for the intake manifold than the older blocks do! Meaning, If you get a vortec bloc then you will need the intake manifold as well, all are expensive and most are 2 pc. Now if you already have a vortec block you are replacing then the vortec block is the way to go.

Michigan Motorz sell motors also. If nothing else please look and read about the different motors and how they differ! It will save you alot of headaches.

Just a suggestion but maybe you should research what gear ratio would be required for the V8 305 vs the V6 4.3L. Each engine may and most likely does require a different Gear Ratio than the other engine. That gearing is in the upper unit of your outdrive and can and does vary significantly from different hp, cubic inch/Liter and cyclinder engines. There is a whole lot more to this than just switching the engines. Location of the motor mounts can vary with a different block design from a newer year VS an older model year as well as the flywheel. Just so you know!
