I thought one of the you tube videos had a guy from Wisconsin out on Erie with Capt. Mike and he said they were "cold water warts". I have no idea as to the validity of his statement. I have seen them in the spring but only fish the jig bite.

Thanks Wakina ! The water hole is in the same place. They have been renovating the last year and just finished, very nice !!!
I always thought that some of those are from lampreys... That was just an assumption that I've had, no reason other than sometimes when you catch a fish with a lamprey attached to it they definitely bleed and there is a sore there.
I always thought it was from the spring river runs. So many foul hooked, then tear free or you land them and release them. I have always smashed the barb on my jigs when river fishing, I think it does less harm to the fish and is way easier to back out. Just a guess.
Seems like an Dnr officer told me they were old snag wounds from the spring when they are so thick up on reefs and shallows.
Here is the link to the web page. It looks like they are having spam issues at this time also.

Another vote for the Bell Mell pizza. Did I mention cold beer? Caught an old fish through ice once that had a big lamprey attached to her. Very creepy. They slowly suck the life out of the fish. Makes for a slow death.
Kinda like marriage. Ill start callin my wife little lamprey.
