Default Rare catch...another great day 5/31

We fished our favorite honey hole up on the border yesterday and caught 6 nice fish in the first 45 minutes using the same program as last weekend. It slowed down fast and we only caught 2 more in the next 2 hours so we decided to troll SW along the East side of the islands. We would hit pockets and take 3 fish in 5 minutes then nothing again for an hour. I'm sure we could have limited early if we wanted to fight the wind and waves and double back to those hotspots but chose to take the easy route and kept heading back toward Catawba. We did end up with our limits, my niece caught her first walleye ever and my son caught a rare blue walleye! I remember a past post on here about a blue perch being caught and some were talking about the blue walleye but I never thought we would see one on my boat. He was only a 20 inch fish but unique anyway. The WO checked us at the dock and said it was the first one he'd ever seen. I will try to post a pic showing the blue walleye next to a regular one to show the difference.

Blue in perch and walleyes is like an albino in the animal world. It is supposedly caused by lack of pigment. The same as a white deer or any other animal not normally white in color and reddish eyes. Information can be searched for on Ohio Sea Grant. I am on my phone or would post the info.

Forgot to thank you for the report and congrats on the blue walleye. That memory will last a lifetime.

Wow! That sure is a deep blue, seen some in the past that were blue but a much lighter shade of blue.

He definitely stood out when we got him in. I am trying to get better at uploading pics, I can't seem to get them from my phone so that was a pic of a pic from my phone to my iPad. I guess I better just start taking the pics on the iPad to simplify things. I'll try to get better.

Send them to your email address from your phone then save them to your computer. Then you can upload them or print them however you like. Your iPad should also have your email so it would work just as well if you send them to your email. I will not take my iPad near the water for obvious reasons pics or not.

Anyone think this may be a Blue Pike that were supposed to be fished to extinction in the 70's?

A noble thought indeed and of course anything is a possibility, but it is highly unlikely that this is a blue pike! Here is some reading to back up my analysis of the fish in question!

I was sure glad to read that information! I would be absolutely sick to know we harvested a fish that was supposed to be extinct. If I would have given it more thought, we should have released this one.
