Lol. It was Ski & I. 150 yards offshore in front of admin building. Sandbar area. Ice is good. Don't even look west inside pier head. Lol

Does that mean there are areas the ice is never safe regardless how thick it is elsewhere on the lake ?

Hoss, can't say that? Don't know? Shallow. W/ sandbars in front of admin building. Went out last night from camp perry. No problem. Yes. We caught walleye. Late afternoon or early morning bite has been trend. Started at 4:30 & fished till 6:30

I'm just reading the posts and trying to make sense of it all. I'm Leary of the ice and always wonder how to tell if it's safe enough to travel out on.
I own no ice gear but reading all this, I sure have the itch.

Hoss, just get a med/heavy action pole & take a reel off a walleye rod. Target mid February & crane creek. Wait for a beautiful day/weekend and go give it a try. Oh? You want a kids sled & bucket (sit on). The sled, cuz it's easier to pull, than carry 6,12,18 walleyes. Don't worry about auger. Just ask & fellas will let ya use theirs. Just go 50 yards away from them (or further). Once ya hook a few, land a few, & yes possibly loose a few you'll be hooked. It's a party out there.

A party and no sea sickness from the waves and no tangles from trolling! You keep talkin and I might have to give it a try too!

Jig.......too bad we don't get ice here in quantity/quality.......and extended periods of it like other areas and lakes (WISC. Minn.) would be cool to set up a base camp out there, grill accessories etc......a working man might have to take winters off!!!
