    Default Ship to shore radio

    This past summer first time fishing erie out of own boat used a hand held ship to shore looking for recommendations for a mountable one that will be sufficient...

    just about any good radio will work for you. but don't scrimp on the antenna. a lot of people will spend good money on a radio then spend 49.95 for an antenna. get a good antenna like the Shakespeare 5225 xt you'll be happy you spent the extra money on a good antenna.

    would like to have a retractable antenna is that possible?...also thanks for the response I was about to change my handle to black pearl so I could get a response

    What he said. The antenna is the key factor. By a cheaper radio and a good 8' antenna. The higher up your antenna is the better your reception. You can use a mount that folds down when not in use.

    Not retractable but removable, the wiring and mount stays with the boat but the antenna mast goes home with you if you so chose. I used one of these a few years ago and it was awesome. I cannot speak about the new ones though but I would imagine they are just as good. I intend to replace my old antenna with this for next spring. If you spring for one get a cap or make one to protect the contact which is in the base.
