Default Perch Rod/Reel Combos and Line?

I would like to get a few new Perch Rod/Reel Combos.

I know my old rods are too stiff (Medium Duty Rod with Spin Reels)

What do y'all recommend and what line do you prefer?

I go out of Lakeside (lakevue marina) and just fish for fun on weekends. Trying to get better.

Ultra light W/ braided line. Lews is making a great reel again. Maybe a st Criox or Fenwick ultra light. Switch up spreaders and crappie rigs

    Default economy package

I use 29.95 combo packages of rod, reel & line on sale either from Cabela's or WalMart. They have 8# mono with casting reels and are very sensitive and really easy for kids to use. If they go overboard(the rods), no big loss. Shakespeare reels and Whuppin Stick rods(Cabela's) or Shakespeare rods(Walmart). Use either crappie rigs or spreaders.

Skipper 9 rigs and a good ultra light or light with good backbone I prefer st Croix but hiway bait makes a nice sheffield light that's is nice for 30 bucks I like 10-14 fireline and a 1/2-3/4 ounce weight
    Thanks

7ft light action with 8# braid, or gander mountain guide sereis ultralights with skipper 9 rigs or spreaders with red hooks, 1/2 to 3/4 oz depending on waves.

+1 on the skipper 9 rigs. My catch rates went up significantly when I switched from a spreader last year. Braid is also great for being able to feel them just suck in the minnow.

Oh Yea on the Skipper 9 rigs, I personally use an Ultra Light Ugly Stick lite rod with a decent reel and I use power pro 15 lb braid. For the reel I just find a better then average one that I like, I think it is less important then the rod, rig and line.

Some people do better with mono though, you definitely feel every little bite with the braid but you can also jerk too soon with it. It may take you a little but I find getting a feel for a slight delay in the hooking department and the braid combo is deadly. Some people cannot get use to that and the slight stretch in the mono may be a better fit.

Just curious about the braided line? . What is the purpose of the braid with perchin.? Do you run a leader with mono or flouro or braid all the way to the rig? I get jiggy with a 7 foot st Croix and 6lb test.? Same setup I use when I go perchin.
