I use a small swivel and then a 3 foot flouro skipper 9 rig. The flouro does a good job with abrasion and not twisting. You definitely have to back off on the braid hook set though or you will just bring up lips.

Braid is more sensitive and no stretch.
I use braided for perchin. I like the feel of no stretch sensitivity for the light biters. I use a mono leeder in case of a snag when using a spreader. Straight up braided when using a Skipper9 rig.
Braid, As others have said, if a perch so much as farts your way you will feel it.
Ultralight, I prefer Plugger combos I believe they are IM8 s with 10lb spider wire
