I have done a LOT of reading and watching videos of Erie walleye jigging. It seems that MOST guys recommend 5/8 to 3/4. I suppose 1 ounce would be good on those really WINDY days.

Note: This is not from experience, only what I have read and seen a lot of.

Let me know how the mould works out for you. Been rolling that around in my head to help pass the winter days.

Channel 79, hit me up. Can be caught perch'n or drift'n around the islands when I make it out.

    Default sizes

I would say that 75% of the time I throw a 3/4 oz. 1 oz. will help on the windy days to keep control of the bait and hold the bottom. I have had days that 1oz on a line then added a 1/4oz split shot on top of that. It worked fine. I do have some smaller 1/2 and 5/8 for the calm days but you know how often we have calm days in April. Brian is right with the sizes. Sometimes they want the smaller ones. The mail thing is keeping control of the jig on the bottom. I keep telling the guys, "Find the Bottom, find the bottom". If you cant feel the bottom you have other issues. Thats another story with many factors.
Yes it is sort of a flat semi oval shaped head.

Greg, good input. You actually convinced me to add 1oz jigs to my shopping list for the next time I'm up in Port Clinton.

    THANKS MAN!

We frequent 3 to 5 ft waves or more in the spring. With 2 drift socks out and the big jigs, its all you can do to keep contact with the bottom. I have some real die hards for the spring jigging and they dont care how rough it is. Good luck

I agree with Capt Greg. 3/4 - 1oz for all the same reasons. Remember the stinger hooks
