It should work just fine for everything if it is the right manufacture. About any 8hp would work for in-line boards! It does not take much to move a boat 1 to 2 mph. and you would have some reserve power for trolling into the waves with in-lines. Can't say if it would work well into the waves with big boards though they pull alot harder than in-lines, IMO it probably would but that is only an opinion and not based on fact.

Should work just fine those are pretty good engines! They are a work horse that is not recognized by many! How much does it weigh?

I have a 27ft Baha its 7000 lbs I have a 9.9 hp Honda longshaft on my Baha its ok on calm water it SUCKS trolling into the wind. I have to run it at 5500-6500 rpms going into a moderate wind to keep the speed where I need it 1.8-2.1. I pull only big boards and fish the Eastern Basin mostly, we do fish around the Islands in early May every year and troll a little slower when were there it was a little better trolling slower, my advise is to go with a 15hp Long shaft after this season I will be getting a 15hp for my boat. Just my .02cents.

fishkiller16 I highly suggest that you take a look at the Yamaha T9.9 high thrust. You would be amazed at how much more thrust it has compared to a standard 9.9...probably way more than a regular 15 horse motor. They are geared different and have huge low pitch props. Here's a link.

I have a high thrust yamaha on my 19 footer, I tried it and it didnt make much of a difference, just need more HP. I need to stay with honda as all the controls and wiring is for a honda and I'm not tearing it all out to change brands. (way more work than i wanna do....lol)
