Thanks Reeltime. That's pretty much the way it has been explained to me and I tried to relay in my posts. I still think while trolling, you should be able to get a "boat limit" as you don't always have able folks to steer and control the boat not being a charter. But I understand the statement.

I also sent an email to the ODNR and here is a copy and paste of that Email minus my private email which I Xed out. There will be alot of people P.O. with the answer!
Derald,
Thanks for the email. Once you catch your limit for a particular fish,
you must stop fishing for that fish.
Thanks,
Jason

I would like to know if while fishing on Lake Erie if you are allowed to
catch and release additional walleyes once you have placed your daily
limit of walleyes in your cooler or live well! Are you allowed to
continue to fish for walleyes on a catch and release basis or must you
stop fishing?
Thank You;
Derald

boat limit while trolling
If I am reading and understanding all this correctly, while trolling say you have 4 men on the boat and 15 fish in the box, it would seem that it would be illegal to have more than 2 lines out, is this correct? If 14 fish in the box only 4 lines out?
And as Lowe Life stated, are the officers actually gonna believe you are trolling for Sheephead? Its logical to some extent, but all these grey areas on the law, just as the new fish cleaning law, seem to leave me more confused and worried even though I do nothing wrong. It kinda makes a rather enjoyable time on the water more nerve racking and filled with anxiety over whether you are in total compliance with new, unclear laws.Wellcraft 3200 Coastal T-454s

Yep if an officer wants to push the subject. But I doubt you'll see it strickly enforced unless someone complains and makes it a big issue. I sure hope not.

Just read the article from the link
and a guy on another popular site mentioned the fact that the wildlife officer mentioned snagging was happening also. but this was the first I heard of that snagging. like they said over thier if thats what happend then it is their own fault. you brought it on yourself now deal with it. the crew had to know it was happening because they net the fish and have had to allowed it. years ago before I had my own boat i fished alot on the party boats, the crew would always over see me catching and or throwing back fish and keeping count of them. so they had to know, it's bs and many ranted including me to only find out there was more to the story

Sounds like to me the ODNR needs to get their act together. I just watched the "Wild Ohio" show and the Officer was dealing with walleye fishing and addressed the very issue of passing the pole. He said if you have your limit you can hook a fish and give your pole to your buddy who does not have his limit and he can legally reel in the fish. Catch was described as netting or taking possession of by touching the fish, which you could not do if you had your limit. According to the officer on the program, you can still fish for a species even though you have caught your limit as long as you did not keep or have in your possession more than your limit of that species.

No such thing as a boat limit, the stated limit is a personal limit, once you have boated your 4 fish you can not keep fish if you do, your violating the law and will be fined. You can still fish, but you must release them. This is not complicated, new or a different interpretation of the law. It is the way it has always been. Follow the rules and you won't be fined, break them and they'll get you and rightfully so.
