A quote from the new 2012 In-Fisherman Walleye Guide.
"Weather Conditions were ideal and the spring of 2011 appears to have produced another banner year-class to buoy the fishery for years to come".
"The huge 2011 year class also occurred in many parts of the Central basin".
" Biologists estimate it could be the largest in Lake Erie history".
Page 51-52. No author noted.
Now who is ready to go fishing ?Last edited by gregnwtf; 01-29-2012 at 09:42 PM.

A Quote from the DNR website:
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/enew...6/Default.aspx
"So now that you know the types of surveys and the procedures for verifying the data, I’m sure you still want to know “What’s the Hatch?” for 2011. For walleye, the August trawl survey resulted in a catch of 4.9 juvenile walleye per hectare; a rather below-average catch that will produce an estimated 7 million age-2 walleye which will begin to show up in the fishery in 2013. For comparison, the average juvenile walleye catch since 1988 has been 29.9 fish per hectare, which results in just over 11 million walleyes recruited annually. The large 2003 walleye cohort produced a catch rate of 155.6 fish per hectare and recruited an estimated 68.8 million fish."
Somebody's wrong lol

tests and conversation
the dnr had real low test trawls in 2010, then ran another set later and were more normal. Did the infisherman mention who they worked with for their data? I had heard they workd w osu they were actual ones that put out test meshes in spring.

spawn article
No Dave, no mention at all on who did this survey or whatever want to call it. No author was listed, probably so he dont get a million phone calls.
The article was called "Walleye Destinations". I would say it was a good spawn from what I saw, but the dnr survey areas never change. The fish were not near the same areas as a whole at the same time years before. Due to weather from early season. So it makes sense that the surveys were different during the 2 times. The dnr has a set location set on gps and the amount of time the net is down for each trawl. What they get is what they get.

I'm so glad to hear some positive news about ol'Erie !!. I read infisherman, Walleye insider, I don't think that they would BS. the fact of the trawl survey, maybe they do things a little different than odnr. One other thing I was wondering is how old are the fingerling at the time of the survey? and how many years is it untill they are of legal size. It looks like it may be an early season for us this year, but Febuary can get nasty fast and put the brakes on fast. Still working on the boat getting her ready for the brown trout season, which will be here before we know it. Hope the jig season will be better for you guy's this year, little less wind would be nice. Till then have a great season guys. PAP
