    Default Lookin for punsihment?

Long time reader first time poster (I think they call me a lurker). Father and I recently rebuilt a 21' sylvan center console with a 115 merc. Only had time once this year to get it out on the water from Sterling. It was quite a different experience fishing 5 mi. out. We are looking at heading up again on the 28th of this month. I see a lot of people talking about pulling things before that. Are we looking for trouble, or wasting our time? We were hoping the smallies and a few wallies were moving a little shallower. Way I look at it, any time spent on the water not working is worth it. -Eric

Just have to watch the weather, water can be much lower this time of year so watch levels where you launch. Many marinas require boats out at end of october, the inboards need to be winterized as freeze can happen any time after middle of Oct. Late fall winds have a tendancy to be stronger and keep lake stirred up this time of year, if the weather is good so are your chances but time is runnin out!

...small craft advisory remains in effect until 4 am edt
    tuesday...

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 4 am edt tuesday.

    * winds: Southwest to west winds of mainly 15 to 30 knots will
tend to prevail into monday night before starting to diminish.

    * waves: Waves of 5 to 8 feet will diminish a little through the
afternoon then increase to 6 to 10 feet tonight. Waves will
start to subside monday night and should drop below an average
of 4 feet early tuesday morning.

    Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A small craft advisory means that waves will average 4 feet or
more and wind speeds may exceed 22 knots which will create
hazardous conditions to small craft. Inexperienced mariners...
Especially those operating smaller vessels...should stay in port
or return to port prior to the onset of these conditions.

not wasting your time if you can find the weather/water conditions good. last year mid november they slayed the walleye around the islands. that's the great thing about outboard motors they require no winterizing.

if your talking about launching at sterling again. their should still be a couple dock's still in but fish cleaning will be closed as the bathrooms. just pit toilets usually by then. if the weather isn't nasty the fishing can be great till ice up. chances of catching bigger fish around kelly's islands and east to vermillion if that's where your going to go.

I pulled my boat Nov. 15th last year. the best 2 weeks of the season for me were the 1st 2 an the last 2 in Nov. Was mostly perching but know Eyes move in also. Just watch the 10 day forecast and make sure it's not getting too cold at night. One year half the marina was froze on Oct.28th.

Thanks for the input all. I guess Dad is looking at putting in about 1/2hr north of sterling. I didn't get the exact location as of yet. Unfortunately I don't get to many days off from my two jobs, soooooo I hope the weather cooperates for us on the 28th. -Eric

that's probably erie metro park. they should still have some docks in and the bathrooms open. nice launch and you can hit the river if it's blown out there. walleye and or perch in the river.
