What's your favorite perch rod/rig
Since there has been alot of perchin talk here lately I thought I'd start a thread to see what kind of rod, reel, line etc... everyone prefers for perchin. I don't even remotely consider myself to be an avid perch jerker but I normally use a 6' med. spinning outfit with 8-10 pound mono. Wondering if any of you avid perch jerkers use braid for better feel of the bite. I think perch rigs themselves have been covered pretty well on the thread Bryan started but feel free to add any other perch info.

I've been using braided with a stiff rod, and I hold it. Sometimes I'll have one in each hand. That can get busy if you're on the fish though The guys I fish with all perch with softer rods, braided. And just lay the rods down and watch them (using 2 rods).
I like the feel of the braided line a LOT. I wouldn't perch without it anymore

I like 7 ft medium light action rods with 8# mono berkely trilene XL. I must be old school, but it works for me. I usually fish with just one pole as the bite is pretty light.

I fish with 6-6 medium action rods. I use reels with braid and if I feel I need mono on I'll nail knot a 6' section on. Mostly, I just have a swivel on the end of the braid and hook it to the spreader or whatever rig I have on. I usually try to fish two rods but, if the fish start biting too fast I switch to one rod.

I use a bait caster med light action rod with braided line, i like it so much better than mono. Its the only time I use a bait caster, just press the button and the line spools out by itself, I usually work two rods and I can either bait or tend the other rod as the line goes out.

Wayne I always use the tru-turn #4 or #2 gold color. Does the red work better? When the bite is on they hit anything

red hooks
we have experment for last few years, on tougher days red hands down , fast bite brown gold or red, bigger fish seem to come on red, I use true turn on my single hook rigs, also skipper nine use red hooks on his rigs, last weekend fri. and sat.
biggest perch came on skippers 9 rigs, ethier rig just takes some time to learn how to fish.

Braided line, especially in deep water mated with a quality action rod ie IM6 med action. I usually wait to see what the program is and make adjustment. For example, If fish are on the bottom and only taking bottom hooks, I may use a spreader close to or even laying in the bottom. What I don't like about spreaders is you must move the line more to get a propper hook set bc they stand up on end when you set. Crappie rigs are better for this and you can use 3 hooks but if fish are bottom only, you only tend to use the bottom hook. I like to tie 2 or 3 hook chicken rigs with 25-30# mono with the hook line running toward the rod tip and crimped with about 3 or 4 inch leads. It makes a nice 3 hook umbrella like rig that doesn't tangle on the drop or pick up.

perch rig
I like to use a spreader and a 3/4 oz with no bling. I use the hooks that have 18" of 20 pound test. I also like longer poles medium heavy. I use 12# mono for the reel.
