electric kicker
does anyone have any experience or knowledge of using electric trolling motors for main trolling propulsion? I am looking at the Minn Kota Vantage transom mount 101# 36v system. I have a 20' deep v and am wanting to troll without the noise of an engine. Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I use my electric trolling motor all the time when using bottom bouncers/crawler harnesses and it works really well. I did try trolling with dipsy/Jest and spoons, but found it required running the electrict motor too fast to get the requried speeds and ran down the battery too fast so I gave it up. If I was to troll with spoons or plugs I would definatly use a gas motor. With that said though I don't think you have to troll as fast with crawler harnesses to be effective. You just need to speed up the drift a little to keep the sheephead and white pearch off the harnesses. I was only using a 40# 12V system on a 16ft boat though....
Hope this helps.Last edited by GotMach; 05-01-2008 at 10:12 PM.

There are a lot of touring pros that use these systems.I have talked to some that have had nothing bad to say about them as long as you are just pulling cranks at low speeds or spinners.
