    Default Shiners?

Why do shiners come and go at bait stores? Full moon, too rough to go out to get them. Not in the area. Go to the local bait store and get what you can. Have had decent results with Goldie's.

Usually because they were not able to get them for various reasons....typical this time of year. These hot, no wind, dog days of summer are not helping. Not impressed with goldies at all. I do freeze my leftovers when shinners are availiable, they work better than goldies but no where near as good as fresh shinners. Hope this weather pattern changes soon !

Is the price the same per scoop of shiners vs. Goldie's?

Do any of the bait shop sell the frozen, "drunk" minnows or do people just do that themselves? There are a lot of times where me and the wife wanna fish on the way back from the islands but no one on the islands sells minnows. Would be helpful to buy some frozen on the mainland and then just thaw them Sunday when we wanna fish. Just curious.....

I know Hi-Way bait does usually, yes. Can’t remember price exactly but remember thinking they weren’t exactly cheap, BUT they are convenient and do catch perch!

I just pour some rubbing alcohol on a small baggy about half full of leftover minnows. No need to totally submerge them, just enough to get them in the alcohol to preserve rhem. Due to the alcihol, they don't freeze. They thaw out in a few minutes and stay fairly firm from the alcohol, where just plain frozen minnows turn to mush after thawing. I have found much less discoloration with the alcohol and the firmness makes a big difference.
