When can we expect successful casting for walleye to start up this year?

You can start getting them now! Right now it’s the best time…You can jig, cast harnesses, troll or whatever!

Thursday morning north of Turtle Creek in 25 FOW. Tried casting, pulling 3oz bottom bouncers for an hour. Caught one 17" walleye. Everyone around us was trolling.
We started trolling and picked up a two man limit of nice fish. We had 4 doubles and it was a chore when we tried going against the wind and waves.
Had a Marine (ex) onboard who had never trolled before and it was WORK trying to steer, net fish, hook up boards.
He had 0 sea legs and I know now why they put Marines on land (most of the time)
We had Bandits on the Stbd side 90 and 80 back behind off shore boards did the best, chrome, chrome blue, and a two green color did the best.
Port side ran flicker minnows with 3oz weight at 35 & 30. Chrome, greens .
Speeds were 1.7-1.9 Lost one and had to release one that got on the same time as HOMER.

Traditionally the jig/crankbait bite changes to the harness/ spoon bite when water temperature hits 50-52 degrees. That occurs around mid May.You can still catch them with a harness now if trolling really slow or dragging a bottom bouncer. But once the water warms up enough you can do well casting harnesses or weapons.Should be a great year with all the different age class of fish in our lake now.
