I had my old first mate from the Caribbean in just for a day and he wanted to fish Erie. I tried to warn him it was going to be sporty out in the open where I have been catching fish. He started in with all our old stories of how we took the small boat off shore and had been in snotty weather. The small boat was a 33 ft center console with a diesel engine. Very heavy. Naught a 20 ft lund.

So we went out and fished east of Kellys roughly north of Cedar Point. As expected the north rollers worry nasty. We really had no choice but to fight our way north and troll in with the waves,

We caught fish in 44 to 38 ft of water that were small but good eaters, 16 inchers. The downriggers saved the day in those waves. Most fish came 30 down. The small Michigan Stinger copper wonder bread with orange head and perch caught steady down 30. Also the medium Monkey Puke caught with a 3 oz inline weight back 100.

We came back for a nice fish fry.

I am feeling the ride today and he has more respect for our big lake.
