Default Reeling in a sea gull

This happened yesterday!!! We had a fish on reeling in a board and the fish was floating on the surface. This sea gull decided that was lunch and came in for a grab but didn’t see the other line out to another board and got his wing all wrapped up in it. Somehow it didn’t break and I got him into the boat and unwrapped. Quit the excitement for a few minutes.Reeling in a sea gull-69b3b5e3-e286-485d-9f4e-d2d077aba9ad-jpg

I had that happen last year only the gul decided it wanted to chew on my walleye I was bringing in. It knocked the fish off then decided the Flicker minnow that was on the surface looked good enough to eat.
I brought it in and netted it to remove the lure and he got pretty frisky but once freed from the treble hook flew off.

I caught a big one a few years ago in front of the coast guard station at marblehead. I was casting a jig for smallies along the front breakwall. There were hundreds of gull resting above and they all decided to flush just as I made a long cast along the wall. the line went over one of them and pulled tight as it flew until it hooked him in the wing. Down he went in a heap. Reeled him in and threw a towel over him and removed the hook without harm. Tasted like chicken.
