Dipsy
What is the advantage of keeping the O-Ring on the Dipsy versus taking them off.

Dipsy DiverŪ Rings provide more surface area to standard and magnum sized Dipsies, offering increased dive depth and greater flexibility within the trolling spread. Multiple colors allow for the addition of accents to increase attraction. (Per Rapala)
Up to 20% deeper. (Per Luhr Jensen)

in shallow water like 40' you could get by without the ring by using longer leads. but for getting the lure deep the ring is needed. if you want to get away from the rings get the deeper diver from fishusa.com they are like a dipsy with the ring on. I like them much better than dipsies.
