Now back to the wind. Looks like wind forecast is calling for SE winds on Saturday. So you will be fine within a few miles of shore and its only up to 12knots so not that bad out further.

I was out May 18 when it was blowing 25 out of the NE along the west side of catawba. Along with a handful of other boats. We caught a few but that is a real blow. SE winds will not negatively affect the fish. Go get them and good luck. I might have a friend in the tourney.

Great! Thanks for all the advice. Since we only make a trip or 2 every year it's nice to get the knowledge from the people who fish the area regularly. Appreciate all your help!

    Thanks again!

Not sure NE or E winds keep the Western Basin cooler. NE or E winds push warm surface water west, forcing the bottom water currents to the east, therefore actually warming the Western Basin. West winds do the opposite - push warm surface water east, driving bottom currents from the eastern and central basins to the west, thus cooling the Western Basin. From the current maps I've seen that cooler water from the Central Basin doesn't get too far into the Western Basin later in the summer, but it might now with the thermocline still relatively shallow.

Looks like the windfinder forecast shows lighter winds then was previously predicted for this weekend.

    Dave,
I'm usually inclined to think the same about the warm surface water moving west but the surface water off west of catawba was 74 degrees on memorial day. Last saturday it was 67. I know the sun may have some effect but, I don't think the surface temps in CLE are even 67 last weekend so that was based on a recent observation of mine.

Hope you are doing well by the way. Let me know if you want to join me again.

according to windy.com, the east winds won't blow hard until Sunday evening. looks like 10 knots or less now. If the forecast is true, fishing and boating should be fine.
